The basilica occupies a central position on the Pest side of the city, anchoring the pedestrian-friendly Szent István Square in District V. Zrínyi utca runs from the church directly toward the Danube River and the Chain Bridge, while the surrounding plaza is lined with cafes and open spaces that frame the neoclassical facade and the twin bell towers.
